Waar moet je op letten bij het kopen van ledverlichting

As an installer you are of course well aware of the (im)possibilities of LED lighting. The world of LED is still changing and it is therefore important to always stay informed so that you know exactly what to look for when purchasing LED lighting. There are still plenty of challenges! That's why you'll find special tips here.

LED panels

LED panels are hot in work and office spaces, but also in shops. You can save a lot on your energy bill, especially if you have many panels. You will notice this all too well if you replace existing fluorescent lighting with LED panels. But if LED panels break down or need to be replaced for some other reason, you may encounter certain problems.

First of all: LED panels are quite easy to replace. However, afterwards you often see a color difference with other existing LED panels. That is not always desirable. Not only does it look less attractive due to color differences, it can also lead to problems, for example in a shop window. After all, in such an environment all products must be displayed properly and therefore have the right light. If the product were to be taken outside, the color must still be the same as in the shop window.

Check the transformer of the LED panel

If an LED panel fails, and this often happens when it is between 7 and 10 years old, it is often due to the LED driver, the transformer. It is therefore smart to first check whether it is not broken and needs to be replaced. Test the transformer and replace it if necessary, then the LED panel will be in order again and you will not have to deal with any color differences between the existing panels.

High CRI value

You decide, for whatever reason, that an LED panel actually needs to be replaced. It is then best to choose a panel with a high CRI value - because you will then be (much) less bothered by color differences - even though a panel with a lower CRI value is usually cheaper. A high CRI value, 90 or higher, means color fastness and thus prevents color differences between panels.

LED panels with CCT switch

If you are going to install or replace LED panels , consider the option of an LED panel with CCT switch or switch option.
Such a switch offers the option to choose between three basic colors: 3000, 4000 and 6000. Super handy of course. You switch effortlessly from 'atmosphere' to 'work' and to 'daylight'. For companies, for example, this means excellent lighting at the turn of a button at any time: 6000 for nighttime work or work that requires extremely bright light, 4000 for daytime and 3000 during (relaxing) meetings.

A few tips and facts:

  • Tip 1: For schools and buildings you usually choose a UGR-19 value. This means a better glare factor; less brightness in the panel
  • Tip 2: Choose the right color:
    830=3000K
    840=4000K
    Did you know that color 927 stands for 90 CRI value and 2700K? This is a warm color

    • Tip 3: Keep in mind that the Lumen per Watt continues to increase. For example, a 40W LED is now comparable to a 30W LED. They provide the same amount of light because the number of lumens has increased
    • Tip 4: When making your choices, also pay attention to the number of times an LED lamp can be turned on and off. This number can vary from 15,000 to 50,000 times. If you choose a lamp in a place where it is switched on very often, the lamp will become unusable sooner than necessary. The operating hours of the LED lamp have not yet expired, but the lamp no longer works because the maximum number of switches has been reached
    • Tip 5: Avoid installing LED fixtures in combination with a motion detector. They often do not match well due to the frequent switching on and off. If you still want a motion detector, choose an LED lamp with a built-in detector. Or opt for manual shifting. • Tip 6: Choose the light color according to the environment and use. This may seem obvious, but more is possible and it may be more important than you think. For example, you usually choose color 4000 for an office space and 3000 for the canteen. For a hair salon it is best to choose color 4000 + high CRI value. This is because the right choice of hair color is very important and must be able to be properly assessed.
