PPE

Personal protective equipment (abbreviated to PPE) is a product that is intended to protect people from health risks. Such protective equipment is worn or held, such as boots, knee pads, gloves or a fire extinguisher. It is important to work safely! PPE must comply with legal requirements, whether it is used by an employee, self-employed person or at home. In some cases, wearing protective equipment is not only smart, but also mandatory.

What types of protective equipment are there?

InElektro offers a wide range of products when it comes to personal protective equipment, classified by body part:

  • Respiratory protection (masks)
  • Knee protection
  • Foot protection
  • Hearing protection
  • Eye protection
  • Head protection
  • Hand protection

You will also find safety vests, fire extinguishers and shielding equipment with us and we are constantly expanding our range.

Respiratory protection

In the field of respiratory protection, there are light to very heavy protective equipment. At InElektro you will find the lighter versions such as dust masks in various designs, with and without valve. There is also respiratory protection available in complete sets, including hearing and eye protection.

Knee protection

When working, you often have to sit on your knees, which is not only unpleasant but can also be harmful in the long run. A knee protector is usually waterproof, insulating and has foam or gel on the inside. Such a knee protector distributes the weight over a larger area and thus contributes to stability. In addition to knee protectors, there are also knee mats.

Foot protection

Wearing the right foot protection is also extremely important. Depending on the job, the feet are at risk from heat, fire, hazardous substances, electric shocks, liquids, cutting or puncturing. Safety shoes are therefore used in many workplaces. This prevents injuries from falling objects or because you step on a nail or glass or slip.

There is a wide range of safety shoes available: from low to mid-high and high shoes and of course boots.

Hearing protection

If you are exposed to noise (long-term) - more than 80db - you can suffer serious hearing damage. You can even become deaf. Good hearing protection is therefore very important. InElektro offers all kinds of possibilities for protecting hearing. From simple disposable earplugs for occasional handymen to reusable earplugs in all kinds of designs and of course professional earmuffs.

Eye protection

It goes without saying that eye protection is extremely important. After all, it's about your vision. Whether you're a professional contractor or a do-it-yourselfer, safety glasses are a must. Available from us in all kinds of models and designs and always of high quality. Most safety glasses are equipped with anti-scratch glass, fog protection and sun filter. This way, flying particles don't stand a chance and you protect your eyes from the sun and other external influences.

Head protection

PPE head protection includes helmets and face protection. Head injuries are a risk, especially on construction sites and during major renovations. A safety helmet is often mandatory, but even without this requirement it is wise to wear a helmet. Not only against falling materials, but also in case you bump your head. In addition, there are face protectors, with or without an anti-condensation layer.

Hand protection

Finally, hand protection is also important and perhaps one of the most requested protective equipment. They are available in all shapes and sizes. Some gloves protect specifically against heat and fire, others against dangerous liquids or against cuts.

PPE and the Working Conditions Act

The Working Conditions Act regulates various aspects of protective equipment. It states that an employer is obliged to provide employees with personal protective equipment, PBMS. This protective equipment must also meet European requirements. If a protective equipment meets these requirements, it is provided with a CE marking. The law also contains additional, general requirements:

  • PBMS must provide adequate protection against the risk for which it is intended
  • The user of a PPE must be able to perform his or her work normally
  • There must be no risk or inconvenience to the user as a result of wearing PPE

The Working Conditions Act divides risks and protective equipment into three categories:

Category 1: Minimal risk;
Examples: superficial injury, relatively harmless cleaning agents, contact with warm surfaces (not more than 50 C), non-extreme weather conditions. Related protective equipment includes sunglasses, rain gear and (garden) gloves

Category 2: Medium risk;
most protective equipment falls into this category, such as helmets, shoes and boots, hearing and eye protectors. The law does not specify medium risks.

Category 3: Serious risk;
Examples of these are substances and mixtures that are dangerous, too little oxygen, radiation, temperatures of 100°C or more, falling from a great height, drowning, gunshot wounds or stab wounds and severe noise. The associated protective equipment is for example airtight suits, oxygen masks etc.
