The different types of mounting materials
As stated above, there are many different mounting materials. To give you an impression, we will tell you more about a few of them below.
Plugs and screws
You use a plug if you want to attach something to a non-elastic material, such as a stone wall. There are different types of plugs: in size and material type, but also with or without barbs. There are nylon plugs and impact plugs. The nylon plug, which is provided with barbs so that it does not turn with the screw, is used in walls. The impact plug, also known as a nail plug, is driven into the drilled hole with a hammer.
There are also differences in screws: of course large and small ones, but also with threads over the entire length or only at the tip and there is also a difference in the thread itself. A bolt is mainly used for attaching different types of materials to each other.
Metal brackets
Metal brackets are widely used for attaching pipes. The choice is a saddle if you want to place the bracket over the tube and then screw it into the surface. If that is not possible, you can use an impact bracket. To do this, drill a hole in the surface, place the impact bracket over the pipe and then hammer it into the hole.
Cable clips and tie wraps
Cable clips and tie wraps are plastic straps that you can use to bundle things, cables for example. The difference between these two is that a tie wrap can in principle no longer be loosened, while a cable clip can. With a cable clip you can easily disconnect and/or replace cables.
Truss clamp
With a truss clamp you can support cables or pipes. You attach the clamp to steel using a hammer. There is no need to drill a hole. You can attach a cable or tube in the recess.
The importance of good mounting materials
Both at home and in the office you are confronted with loose cables: from light sources, screens and other equipment. Cables along the wall and over the ground just don't look very neat, it is also unhealthy (dust) and unsafe (tripping). The importance of good mounting material is therefore very diverse.
In addition, it is of course important to choose the right mounting material. Quality is an important condition. After all, materials of lower quality do not last as long, putting your entire installation at risk. A part that is not properly secured, with good mounting material, can come loose and fall, with all the consequences that entails.
Advantages and disadvantages of mounting materials
Fastening materials have advantages and disadvantages. For example, you have to drill holes for plugs and screws, which causes damage to the surface. Drilling and screwing can also cause the material to split, especially if it is a vulnerable surface.
Screws
Screws, on the other hand, provide a strong and durable connection between materials and are therefore ideal for heavy-duty applications. Another advantage of screws is that they allow disassembly so you can make adjustments if necessary.
Mounting kit
Mounting kit also has advantages and disadvantages. You can use it to attach things invisibly, to smooth out imperfections and it is flexible and moisture resistant. Disadvantages of mounting kit are a longer working time (it has to dry), it is less suitable for heavier applications and is not easy to remove.
Cable ties and clips
Cable ties and clips actually mainly offer advantages. It's best to use both for maximum flexibility. You then first place the clips and then the cable ties. This way you have the cables in a nice compact size, but you also have the option to disconnect the cables.
Help with choosing the right mounting material
The choice of the right mounting material depends on several factors. For example, the weather conditions, whether it is wall mounting or ceiling mounting, whether it is a cold or warm environment and of course the types of materials play an important role. InElektro products are in 90% of the cases suitable for normal use as applied by an installer or professional. Do you want advice?
