What do you use electrical conduit for?

An electrical conduit allows you to safely and neatly conceal electrical wires. The conduit usually runs through the wall or underground, but can also be attached directly to the wall (surface-mounted). There are electrical conduits for indoors and outdoors, in all sizes. It is important to choose the right installation conduit. The installation conduits must be properly matched to the selected wires and strict regulations and rules apply.

There are yellow and gray installation tubes:

  • Yellow is for indoor use. A yellow installation pipe is also called a PVC pipe and is suitable for both built-in and surface mounting
  • Grey is for outdoor use; this tube is impact resistant or choose the variant that is very suitable for warehouses/ceilings in sheds (not impact resistant)

The different types of electrical and installation pipes

At InElektro you will find an extensive range of electrical and installation pipes, conveniently divided into categories:

  • Installation pipes
  • Flexible pipes
  • PVC Flexible wired
  • Protective tubes
  • ABB boxes
  • Flush-mounted boxes
  • Hollow wall boxes
  • Waterproof junction boxes

When working with electricity it is extremely important to pay attention to safety and to prepare your job well. Make drawings in advance where you want to install the pipes. Of course, you must first disconnect the power before you start, this can be done by switching off the main switch in the fuse box or only the group you are working on so that you have power in other parts of the building.

PVC pipes

PVC pipes are generally used to provide cables with extra protection against damage and corrosion. As previously stated, you may use one pipe per group. PVC pipes are made of durable and fire-retardant material and are available in various sizes.

Flexible electrical conduit

At InElektro we also offer flexible electrical conduits, also called flex conduits or installation hoses. Some flexible conduits are provided with a sliding layer so that the wires can be pulled through them extra easily. Flexible conduits are made of flexible material such as PVC and have a corrugated structure. This makes it easier to guide wires and cables through bends, which makes the conduit suitable for use in places that are difficult to reach.

Number of wires per installation tube

You may only pull a certain number of wires through an installation tube. This is best done with the help of a tension spring. Below is a brief overview of the different tubes and the number of wires that may be used:

Smooth installation tube, number of wires:

16 mm (inch: 5/8")

  • 5 wires of 1.5 mm2 each
  • 4 wires of 2.5 mm2 each
  • 3 wires of 4 mm2 each
  • 2 wires of 6 mm2 each
  • combination option: 2 x 1.5 mm2, 2 x 2.5 mm2 and 3 x 1.5 mm2

19 mm (inch: 3/4")

  • 5 wires of 2.5 mm2 each
  • 5 wires of 4 mm2 each
  • 4 wires of 6 mm2 each
  • 2 wires of 10 mm2 each

25 mm (inch: 63/64")

  • 5 wires of 6 mm2 each
  • 3 wires of 3 mm2 each

32 mm (inch: 1 17/64")

  • 5 wires of 10 mm2 each

Number of groups through an installation tube

You may use one installation tube per group. If you want to use two or more groups, you must always install a separate installation tube per group. An exception to this rule is the stove group. A stove group can consist of two linked 1-phase groups, and you can then treat them as one group.

Bending the electrical conduit

To bend electrical conduits, you can use a so-called bending spring. If you insert the spring into the conduit, you can bend the conduit to the desired angle. This must be done carefully because you do not want the conduit to break. The angle should not be too sharp because this can cause problems with the cables later. The bending resistance is the resistance that a conduit has to break. The installation conduits that are suitable for outdoor use must have a high bending resistance. It is best to bend the conduit a little further than 90 ° because a PVC conduit always springs back a little.

If you have questions or can't figure it out, an experienced team is ready to help you. You can contact customer service during office hours. You can also email and chat.
