Which wire & cable do I need for my job?
At Elektrohandelsprijs.nl we sell wire and cable for all kinds of applications. But what do you use which electricity cable for? Below you will find a number of tips for the most suitable wire and cable for different jobs.
Installation wire
Installation wire, also called VD wire, is used to provide wiring to the installation and is intended for electrical installations in the home. The VD wire is pulled through an electrical conduit. You can also opt for a flexible pipe that is pre-wired with VD wire and/or with data/UTP or CAI.
YMVK cable
A YMVK cable is a cable for supply and control current for low-voltage installations and is used in both homes and businesses. The YMVK cable is ideally suited for use in damp areas and in areas with high fire safety requirements. At Elektrohandelsprijs you will find YMVK cables in many different thicknesses. We also sell the thinner cables, the 3-core YMVK cable (2.5 mm²) and the 5-core YMVK cable (2.5 mm²) in rings of 100 meters and in cutting lengths per 10 meters.
YMVK axle ground cable
The YMVK axis ground cable has a strand in addition to the normal cores. This is a non-insulated core. A 2-core ground cable is therefore referred to as 2 x 2.5 mm² + 2.5 mm². This means that the ground cable is 2-wire; Contains 2 normal cores with a core thickness of 2.5 mm², and 1 litz wire with a core thickness of 2.5 mm².
Pre-wired flex tube
Pre-wired flex conduit is an easy solution for installing wire and cable. As the name suggests, this tube is already wired and you do not have to pull a wire and cable through a tube. In addition to flexible tubes with VD thread, we also have flexible tubes with coax cable, UTP cable, and a flex tube with both coax and UTP.
Mounting cord
Mounting cable is used for internal cabling of equipment, but also for low-voltage switching and distribution equipment. We have mounting cable in different core thicknesses and different colors. The thinner cables are available per 10 meters and per 100 meter box. The mounting cable with a core thickness of 10 mm² or more is only available per meter.
UTP cable
You need a UTP cable for telephony and computer networks. There are several types of UTP cable, of which we offer the Cat.5E and the Cat.6 UTP cable. Both are suitable for speeds of up to 1000 Mbit, but the Cat.6 has a greater bandwidth. Which cable is suitable for you depends on your internet use.
Coaxial cable
A coaxial cable is intended for transmitting light and sound. In other words: wire and cable for your Ziggo connection, for example. We sell Belden coaxial cable in both black and white and you can also choose the waterproof coaxial cable.
Speaker cord
It actually goes without saying: a speaker cord is intended for connecting a speaker. They are available in red-black and transparent. For the thicker speaker cord sizes you need the transparent version.
Neoprene cables
Neoprene cables are intended for connecting heavy equipment with a higher power/load and in environments where there is a lot of oil. This includes car garages and workshops where the cable is exposed to rough conditions. We have rubber cables for hand tools and heavy machines and they can also be used as extension cables for high-voltage current. Rubber cable is available per meter, per 10 meters and per 100 meters.
VMVL cord
VMVL cord is also called household cable and is ideally suited for connecting lighting and for loose power strips. Various versions of the VMVL cord are also available.
Silicone cable
This cable can be used for spotlights. The silicone cable is particularly suitable for halogen lighting because this form of lighting can become very hot. The silicone cable is resistant to high temperatures and suitable for controlling electric heaters or infrared panels, for example.

Neatly conceal wires and cables
With the help of wall ducts and cable channels you can neatly conceal electricity cables. This not only provides a better appearance but has many more benefits, both at home and at work:
- Safety: less or no risk of tripping over a loose electricity cable
- Health: much less chance of dust on loose electrical wire, easier cleaning, better hygiene
- More structure: you can combine wall ducts with sockets so that you have power in the perfect place. No risk of tangles of electrical cables on or under your desk and no long extension cords
We offer an extensive range of wall ducts and cable ducts, both made of plastic and steel. Suitable for concealing all electrical cables and for attaching sockets, switches and UTP or USB connections, among other things.
Required tools
You need the right tools for most of the actions required to carry out an electrical job or entire installation. Think of insulated screwdrivers and pliers. The insulation around the tool ensures safe handling of an electrical installation that may still be live. Therefore, use the tool correctly so that it is not damaged and therefore no longer meets the safety standard. Our range offers various pricing options. Tools do not have to be expensive to provide the right safety, but if you are an installer, treat yourself to good, fine tools that still provide the right safety after a lot of use.
Guidelines for construction
When installing an electrical installation, the owner of the installation is primarily responsible for the installation and its use. If you want to expand the installation, consult NEN 1010 or make sure you seek advice from a skilled person .
